The time
of Great Forgetting

Spent the night in a haze,
when I found out that our time stood still,
Spent the next day in Reno, when I finally got my fill.
I remember the first time,
and the joy that we found in The Cars,
Now I’m floating in a bad way,
more in touch with the sea than the stars.

We’re skating like brothers, we’re rolling in time,
Deserted our dreams, we’re wasting our minds.
I was looking for a partner, went halfway to hell,
I was waiting for something,
but something never came,
Oh well.

And I know that the magic seems
to have withered to dust,
And the strings on our guitars, are detuned,
and consumed by rust.
And the visions of albums, are distant
and foggy at best,
We’ve confirmed their suspicions
that we’d let go and fall like the rest.

We’re skating like brothers, we’re rolling in time,
Deserted our dreams, we’re wasting our minds.
I was looking for a partner, went halfway to hell,
I was waiting for something,
but something never came,
Oh well.

It rained for 16 hours, the day I broke your heart,
I didn’t take it as a sign.
With every back road flooded, I floated
far from home,
It didn’t take that you were mine.

But we can cry our tears tomorrow,
There is pain enough to go around,
Funny how you see the upside,
When you’re down.

At the abandoned mansion, picked up
by microphones.
We parked our moped by its door.
The picture jumped off pages, for only us to see,
We learned what life was living for.

Your eyes will surely start to fail you,
So you won’t see them burning towns,
Funny how you see the upside,
When you’re down.

When you’re down you see with sympathetic eyes,
And nothing’s a surprise you weren’t ready for.
Each new day begins, wondering why we’re here,
If you ask around it’s clear; it’s to acquire more.
We all want more.
We all want.

If you awoke to find your psychic powers,
You’d read my mind and smile like a newborn elf.
‘Cause you’re not much for books,
you review ‘em on their looks,
But you sure enjoy a screenplay about yourself.

I came to your friend’s door with hopes of dancin’,
But the gods and my shoes came with other plans.
‘Cause they’re both filled with holes,
and reasons no one knows,
Why I still can’t be called an honest man.

You’re twice as jaded as your precious stones,
But like a fool I look for love
until you're dead and gone.
Mine the deepest canyon of your heart,
Where it’s always dark, you’re never alone.

You were seventeen when I first saw you,
It took me seven years to get your name,
Well some might call me shy,
I’m a might forgetful guy,
It’s the unimportant words I can’t retain.

I thought I heard you tell me that you loved me,
You whispered under skies all calm and clear,
Well it don’t mean a thing,
if you’re silent when you sing,
There’s a song somewhere
that I won’t strain to hear.

I’ll find no diamonds in your bones,
I’m not the fool who looks for love
until you’re dead and gone.
She comes to me and love explodes my heart,
We will never part, we’ve always been One.
